O'Reilly & Co.Sol's Fe.15 Football Championship Semi-Final
Moynalty 1-08 St. Pats 6-08
Moynalty travelled to Ballinlough on Sunday morning to play St Pat's in the Fe.15 Football Championship in high spirits after 5 wins on the bounce.
It was the Stamullen team that settled into the game the quicker and raced into a 1-02 lead in the opening few minutes. Moynalty began to settle and played their way back into the game with points from Shane Bennett (2) and Joe Mc Mahon (1).
This game was to be decided by goals, as so many at this age group can be, and it was the St Pat's side who raised 2 more green flags before the break to leave the score at half-time: Moynalty 0-04, St.Pats 3-05
The 2nd half started much brighter for Moynalty as they tore into the St Pat's lead. A penalty from Shane Bennett and a superb point from the impressive Aaron Lynch left 3 points between the sides.
Unfortunately, that was as close as Moynalty would get to St Pat's. A fortuitous goal gave the Pat's side a greater push on and the game looked over as a contest.
2 more goals from Pats, as Moynalty chased the game, left Stamullen side winning out with some style in the end.
Both sides showed great determination and played some great football on a pitch that is always in great condition.
Special mention goes to Eanna Bennett for some great saves, Shane Bennett for keeping the score board ticking over and also Lee Barry, Joe Mc Mahon and Aaron Lynch who all played well on the day.
So it's the end of the year for this bunch of lads from Moynalty but what a year they had from winning the Feile, to getting to the League Final and a Championship semi-final in Div 3 they can all hold their heads high as they definitely did themselves and our Club proud.
