Junior Football Championship '22 Relegation Semi-Final
Moynalty 1:13
Carnaross 1:12
With our Junior A status on the line, Moynalty made the short trip to Kilmainhamwood to take on near neighbours Carnaross in a must win Relegation Semi-Final.
Moynalty raced into a 1-03 lead, with three points from James Cassidy and a goal from Kian Lynch.
Carnaross opened their account before Paul Lynch added another one for the reds. After trading several scores, Carnaross got the lifeline they needed when they got in behind the Moynalty backs to score a goal of their own to leave the sides level at the break.
Into the second half Kian Lynch added to his tally with two points whilst his brother, Ronan, also got his name on the score sheet.
As you would expect, Carnaross were not lying down, as they chipped away at the Moynalty lead. Once we regained initiative and took control of the scoreboard again, Carnaross again replied with two points leaving the Moynalty supporters with their hearts in their mouths with the minimum between the sides. Ollie Sheridan hit over his second point of the day from a free to level up the game for the second time at 1:12 a piece.
With only minutes remaining and Moynalty on the attack, the ball ended up with Paul Lynch, who managed to hold off the Carnaross defence and kick the winning point, to the huge delight of the Moynalty supporters.
Nothing won, but a positive step in the direction we wanted to go. We have one more chance of survival in Junior A when we play St Ultan's in two weeks’ time.
Special mention on performances to Joey Gilsenan, Ronan McMahon and Kian Lynch.
Our man of the match goes to Niall O' Connor who was outstanding at full back, scored a superb point and was moved to midfield where he caused all sorts of difficulties for Carnaross.
