Coolrite Junior B Football Championship Semi-Final

Moynalty 0-17 Cortown 0-07 On Thursday 21st of September, both Moynalty and Cortown made the short trip to Carnaross to contest the Semi-Final of the Coolrite Junior B Football Championship. A massive well done has to be given to Carnaross G.F.C for the organisation and facilities afforded to both clubs on the night. The game started with Moynalty showing their game plan straight away, a fast moving game with quick ball into the forward line. This was evident as early as the 2nd minute when Moynalty opened their account when the impressive Paddy Byrne who's enjoying an injury free season and looks back to his best won a kick out in the middle of the pitch and gave a quick precise pass into James Cassidy who turned his man and fisted the ball over the bar. A minute later Byrne kicked a beauty to put Moynalty 2 up and good measure for their lead. By the 10th minute though Cortown had themselves level but unfortunately for them that was to be their last score for 20 mins while Moynalty hit 7 unanswered points, some of which were after superb build up play with fast direct football. Cassidy was causing the Cortown defence all sorts of problems and it was his 5th point that was the last score of the half leaving the

Half Time Score Moynalty 0-10 Cortown 0-03 The 2nd half started just like the first with a quick ball into the Moynalty full forward line Cassidy again beating his man to the ball turning on a six pence and slotting the ball over the bar. Even at this early stage it was already clear it would take something special from Cortown to get back into this game. They tried gallantly to turn the tide too their credit but with every point they scored Moynalty seemed capable of heading up the other side and score one of their own, especially 2 outstanding points one each from Anto Nevin and Cormac Kearney, Kearney's point from out on the wing was definitely one of the scores of the game. The game was beginning to play itself out with both sides bringing in subs. Moynalty finished the game the stronger of the two teams with Cassidy scoring his 7th point, goalkeeper Johnny Lynch pulling off 2 magnificent saves and the final score of the game coming from corner back Ronan Lynch after a fantastic run upfield. In an all round brilliant performance from Moynalty a special mention has to go to James Cassidy who terrorised the Cortown defence from start to finish, Johnny Lynch who despite having little to do pulled off 2 magnificent saves and his kick outs were solid, Anto Nevin who kept Cortowns go to man quiet and not letting him win any clean possession and also Cormac Kearney who this season has changed to the forward line but once again gave a hard working performance which he topped off with 2 fabulous points. Moynalty will now go on and meet Slane in the Final with full fixture details to follow.
