Coolrite Junior B Football Championship Round 1
Moynalty v Slane A well turned out Drumconrath was the venue for the first round of the Coolrite Junior B Championship game between these two old rivals. The first half was closely contested, Slane opened the scoring with a point, but Moynalty quickly responded with two points from James Cassidy. Moynalty then had goalkeeper Johnny Lynch to thank after a great save from Slane's Taigh Martyn. The scores were level four times within the first half, with Paul Lynch contributing three points and the O'Connor brothers, Niall and Pauric, each adding a point for Moynalty. The halftime score read; Moynalty 0:07, Slane 0:05. In the second half, Joey Gilsenan started strong with two excellent points from free kicks out to the right of the posts.
Slane fought back and scored three consecutive points, narrowing the gap to just two. With Moynalty not just in the groove like they were in the first half James Cassidy added another needed score just before he had to depart with an injury. As the match approached its conclusion, Johnny Lynch made yet another fantastic save for Moynalty, forcing the ball over the bar for a Slane point. Slane then managed to bring the margin to the bare minimum before referee Marcas Ó Donnchú blew the full-time whistle. Final Score was Moynalty 0:10 Slane 0:09. It was undoubtedly an exciting and closely fought contest between the two rivals, with Moynalty emerging as the winners by a single point. There was good performances from Ronan Lynch, Niall and Pauric O' Connor and Joey Gilsenan. Everyone at the club wish good news for James Cassidy and a speedy recovery.
